Happy 59th Gramma

Papa had the great idea of booking a 2 BR condo at Depot Bay for Gramma's 59th birthday. Chris and I were thinking, "The weather will be horrid, raining, cold and windy...don't you know what the Oregon coast looks like in January? We might even have snow on the passes to the beach...this is not a good idea." Then, just over a week ago, there were major storms, flooding and downed trees that blocked major roads leading to Depot Bay. Again, we thought it would ruin the trip.

We were SO WRONG! We spent two glorious days at the beach with Gramma & Papa. The kids swam and were so excited to let go of us in the pool. "I'm doing it! I'm swimming all by myself," they each declared in their floaties and swim vests. Gramma, Daddy and Mommy all took turns being brave in the 70 degree pool water with the kids...just long enough to come warm up back in the spa. We watched a stunning orange sunset together as we partook in a wonderful dinner make by Papa. Cheesecake, candles, gifts and snuggling with Gramma watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua ended the night. The next morning started with chef Papa's breakfast, a drive down the coast and a visit to the Newport Aquarium. Isaac loved that he was brave enough to put one finger on one of the starfish in the touch tank. Abigail was impressed that she touched an abalone shell that was just outside of the touch tank. :) They loved the time with the grandparents! We had to drag them away when it was time to leave Depot Bay. They were begging to stay with Gramma and Papa another night. Isaac called them the next day to invite them over dinner, insisting it had been "like 100 years" since he had last seen them.

Happy birthday Gramma!!! Papa picked a great way to celebrate.

What a wonderful relationship your kids have with your parents! It makes me smile to think of Isaac saying it has been a hundred years....
