Crazy Love Prayer

I am not a reader. I am thankful to get my time in the Bible each day. If I do try and pick up any other books, I usually make it through the first few chapters only to quit (even books I really like). The new one I started, I really hope to finish. It is called Crazy Love by Francis Chan. It is really good. It hits home and really makes me stop a lot...to think, ponder and reflect...really chew on it. This morning on the treadmill at the gym I had to stop and put it down on page 61. I picked it up again two more times and read the same section. It really hit my heart. Then I prayed through the section. Here is how I changed the few paragraphs into my prayer this morning:

The very fact that a holy, eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, merciful, fair, and just God loves me is nothing short of astonishing.
The wildest part is that You don't have to love us..to love me. You are utterly complete and perfect, apart from humanity. You don't need me or any of us. Yet You want us, choose us, even consider us Your inheritance (Eph 1:18). The greatest knowledge we can ever have is knowing that You treasure us, God.
That is really amazing beyond description! You, the holy Creator sees me as Your "glorious inheritance."
The irony is that while You don't need us but still want us, we desperately need You but don't really WANT You most of the time. You treasure us and anticipate our departure from this earth to be with You--and we wonder, indifferently, how much we have to do for You just to GET BY.

Lord, help my love for You to reflect the deep love that You have for me that cannot be grasped. You know that I am one to complete tasks, most of the time with passionless diligence. I get it done and check it off my list. Help me never to do anything for You and "check a box." Help me to be forever grateful and utterly overwhelmed by Your great love and sacrifice made for me when I hated You and had no hope. Help that love naturally spill over into every aspect of my life, my marriage, my relationships, my roles/responsibilities and how I spend my time. Please don't allow me to become stagnant. Restore in me an ache and emptiness that comes when I try to fill my plate apart from You. Make me hunger and thirst to know You more and spend time with You. Continue to amaze me with Your greatness!
