Grandpa Rick and Nona Linda

It was so great to end the summer with Grandpa Rick and Nona Linda coming out from California!

Nona, Italian for grandma, retired from a long career in teaching and school administration and was able to travel and see us this year. It was a real treat, especially for Abigail. Nona, who loves to read and taught AP English, was put to the test when Abigail handed her a stack of books at various times throughout the day. She passed with flying colors!

Grandpa Rick, who was in a band in his younger years, used his musical ability to fix Isaac's guitar and play a song on the piano to inspire him (which also impressed Abigail because it was a song from Tangled). We actually think Isaac get a bit of his musical talents from his grandpa after hearing him at his first piano lesson and hearing him sing the notes along in perfect pitch.

We really enjoyed the time spent together. They treated us to some wonderful meals, but the best part was just having everyone together. Now that the kids are older, they especially appreciate the time. Isaac and Abigail can't wait to go to California at Christmas and see them all again!

Fun at the Goodwill

Did I mention they celebrated retirement by getting tattoos?!?!

P.S. Thanks to Nona Linda, Isaac now gets to play Angry Birds as a reward on Fridays for excellent weeks at school.
