Love being part of my kiddos education...

Lunch at the zoo after we picked Isaac up from school

This year of school is already more than half over. It has been better than I could have asked for. Every parent has many options for school, and this year what was best for our family was a year at the public school down the street. The morning kindergarten class is short, 8-10:30 am. When Isaac is done with school, we still have the entire day together (and many of the days, one or both of us are in class with him). He is growing and blossoming in character and in his education. We prayed that he'd be a light on campus (that our whole family would too) and that he would make at least one good buddy in his class. God has graciously answered those prayers.

The school has a program called, "One School, One Book." Everyone in the school (kids in all grades, teachers, parents, and even office staff) reads the same book, and the kids answer questions about it in class. This year was a book called Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (yes, this is public school). It is great to teach secular material though the filter of the Bible, so we stop and have many great discussions along the way.
Anyway, the book is about a little girl in China. That, coupled with the fact that the kids just studied China in class, we took a field trip to the Chinese Garden on Chinese New Years (special thanks to the public library's free pass).

The garden was so much like the garden described in the book. There were even the stones in the walkways that Minli, the main character, described as "massaging" her feet. They really did! The story came more alive, even for me. The buildings, the lanterns, the reflections in the pools...I love being a part of my children's education. It is so fun to learn with them.

Even if your child "goes to school" outside of your home, don't stop being their teacher!
Normally I am behind the camera, but this proves I was there too

Me too! I praised God for it today as I ran my little heart out. It is a gift for them as much as it is for you. xo!

Love this Amber...
Such a good reminder that no matter what school-option we choose, as moms...we can be involved and invest!
